SUMMARY OF MEETING 10/8/2024
With the sad loss of our pastor, we are in a transition phase. It is important for us to hear the voices of one another as to the vision for our parish, its strengths, and needs. A group of parishioners came together on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. The following is a summary of that meeting.
Transition Updates
The Archdiocese has four Episcopal Regions (composed of deaneries and parishes) each with an auxiliary bishop who oversees the work of the Deans in their assigned region. Our bishop is Efren V. Esmilla who is entrusted with the pastoral care of Episcopal Region IV which is composed of five deaneries and 72 parishes.
Fr. Emmons shared that there will also be hubs in each region where various institutions in education, business, economics, politics, etc. can come together to generate cooperation. What might Holy Cross bring to this?
Review-Refresh Strategic Plan
The strategic plan developed by several dozens of parishioners three years ago included 6 topics and 140 recommendations, grouped under 3 headings: ecumenical, administrative/financial, and parish community growth. An overall goal was to build a diverse community and dream of what a community can be. Over one half of our parishioners gave direct inputs to this plan. Our tagline (voted on by 60-70 people) is Courageous, Compassionate, Catholic, Come and See.
The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) Coordinating Committee took a careful look at the Strategic Plan and focused on pairing objectives with ministries for specific action steps.
This is a good time to revisit what has been done and use it as a jumping off point for further actions.
Ideas for Legacy in Memory of Fr. Grogan
This was an opportunity to brainstorm. Some ideas included:
- Offer a weekly devotional time to pray for Fr. Grogan. This could be on site and virtual.
- Collect Fr. Grogan’s recorded homilies and produce a CD to share. The CD could include videos and images as well.
- Invite Fr. Grogan’s bagpipe group, family, and former students to celebrate him, perhaps at our annual picnic or his anniversary.
- Fr. Grogan always said people’s names whether greeting them after Masses or distributing Communion. Designate a Grogan Garden on our premises and provide decorative stones for people to write their names, prayer intentions, or memories.
Parish Calendar
Overall, the calendar was viewed favorably. Some suggestions were:
- Provide the annual calendar as well as a more detailed monthly one. Can the monthly one be in the format of an actual calendar?
- Emphasize events at the pulpit and reiterate that everyone is invited.
Planning for Parish Census
The point of a census is both demographic and evangelistic. We want to reach out to the community – to understand them – to welcome them – to get to know God in each other.
The next evening meeting date is Tuesday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room. We look forward to hearing from you.
